I met Jeries Bizan a few haircuts ago—he’s my barber now, though it didn’t take long for our chats to grow into something more than haircuts. On that first visit, he mentioned he was from Jerusalem, Palestine. Hearing that stopped me for a moment. I was drawn to his story, and I also felt the weight of what it means to start again so far from home and family, especially when your home carries so much unnecessary adversity.
What struck me most was how calm and thoughtful he was when he talked about life. We connected right away on mindset and on the steady determination that comes with running your own business. That shared entrepreneurial spirit made it easy to want to get to know him better and offer a hand as he settles into his new home.
And now—this part feels especially meaningful—Jeries becomes an official Canadian citizen on Saturday. It’s a huge moment for him, and I’m grateful I get to witness a small part of his path. Building a life here, earning trust one client at a time, showing up with kindness each day… it takes real courage.
This portrait is a small way of honouring that courage and the steady way he carries himself. I’m glad our paths crossed!
Dwayne.
