The 60 at 60 Project

In 2023, to mark my 60th birthday and 40 years in photography, I began creating 60 new black-and-white personal portraits. I’m still working on them—quietly and in between the corporate work.

Portraits have always been my happy place. Each one is a chance to connect. As I often say, “A portrait is not only an opportunity to learn about each person I get to photograph, but perhaps also a little more about myself.”

I recently had the opportunity to photograph my good friend Lucie Raymond, along with her daughter Leah, for an upcoming collaborative art presentation. It was very cool to capture her in two roles at once—both as a proud mom and as a creative collaborator.

For as long as I’ve known Lucie professionally, she’s had her heart and hands in the fine art world. Even while building a successful career in communications and leadership at the University of Ottawa and now the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, she’s always kept a steady art practice—painting, drawing, and creating with a deep love for nature.

Now it’s wonderful to see her giving even more time to that creative side. Her pieces are vibrant and emotional, often evoking a sense of connection to the earth and to one another. Lucie brings the same authenticity to her art as she does to her friendships and her work—and that’s what makes her so inspiring!
