The 60 at 60 Project

In 2023, to mark my 60th birthday and 40 years behind the camera, I set out to create 60 new black-and-white portraits. It’s an ongoing project — unfolding quietly in between my corporate work.

Portraits have always been my happy place. Each session is a chance to connect. As I often say, “A portrait is not only an opportunity to learn about the person in front of me, but maybe also a little more about myself.”

This week we photographed The Speaker, Francis Scarpaleggia, in his official office on Parliament Hill. I’ve known Francis for quite some time, having photographed him over the years as a Member of Parliament — and it was a real honour to see him take on, and photograph him in, his newly appointed role as Speaker of the House.

It’s a special position in Canada’s history — one that carries both tradition and responsibility — helping to guide discussion and maintain a sense of respectful momentum in the House of Commons. It’s wonderful to see someone so deserving step into this role, bringing his calm and thoughtful nature to such an important part of Canada’s democratic process.
